In the narrow minded current scene of rock music and related styles, Opeth is like a small oasis where you can drink something fresh and forget the mediocrity around us. A vision free of ties and labels that transcends any definition, a music hard to be labeled, and a band´s strong attitude both in the studio and on stage. These are the highlights of a band that discover an original and innovative idiosyncrasy.

In the madrilenian debut Caracol venue was sold out and the band offered a show to be long time remembered. After a successful american tour along with Paradise Lost (14 shows, 12 of them sold out), the machinery was perfectly ensembled. The start with “The Lepper Affinity” quickly untied the fury although the band hadn´t the best sound. Soon the band showed the fans an impressive musical skill. One by one, the band played tracks from all the albums. A fierce “Deliverance” or the great “Advent” and peaceful (but intense) tracks such as “Credence” or “A Fair Judgment”, an exercise of precious and melancholic self indulgence. I´m sure Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) loves this track. But Opeth is an original band because of the capability of combining intelligent aggressiveness with acoustic lucidity and great melodies. Tracks like “The Drapery Falls” or “Godhead´s Lament” are examples of composing with the contundence of extreme metal and the old flavor of 70´s. And on stage this tracks have a magic dimension.

After the encore “Demon Of The Fall” the fans returned home hungry of listening to the forthcoming album, “Damnation”. The band promised that they´re going to develop their acoustic style and they´re going to play special shows. Cross your fingers.
